MAR 31: Lionsgate Announces 'Mockingjay - Part 2' Split

Lionsgate has notified all fan sites for The Hunger Games that The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 will be split in to two short films with two separate release dates.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2, set to be released on November 20, 2015, will be released in two separate parts. The date of the split will occur near the FOUR YEARS OF THE HUNGER GAMES anniversary on March 25, 2016. 

In asking if this is an April Fool's Joke, Lionsgate kindly responded:

We are going to be splitting the films as we wish to make the series' finale different than other series. It is not a bad thing, but it something we feel will increase the popularity of the films! Not to mention, there are plenty of places to split in Mockingjay - Part 2. 

In other words, because it is the last film, the studio will be increasing the popularity of the film by splitting the movies BEFORE the final, final movie, which is named below, will be released.

The first movie, THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY - PART 2: DISTRICT 2 will take place following the events of Mockingjay - Part 1. The total run-time of the film will be 1 hour and 40 minutes, not including credits. The same logo will be used for both of the films. The release date is on November 20, 2015, as planned but with one part. The synopsis is as follows:

Now that she has accepted to become the Mockingjay, Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) will complete the final step before taking over the Capitol: bringing together all the districts. While bringing the nation together to bring down President Snow (Donald Sutherland), she also fight's to bring back the boy with the bread. 

The second movie, THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY - PART 2: INSIDE THE CAPITOL will take place after District 2 ends. The total run-time of the film will be 1 hour and 45 minutes, not including credits. The same logo will be used for both of the films. The release date is on MARCH 25, 2016. The synopsis is the current synopsis for Mockingjay - Part 2. You can read this in our MOVIE page.

The new AGE OF ULTRON trailer coming soon will be the announcement of the split. Not to mention, the Hunger Games Explorer is re-launching with the trailer as well.
